Pirateathon Book Recommendations

Posted August 21, 2022 by bethwyrm in Book Challenge / 2 Comments

If you’re interested in participating in the Pirateathon but at a loss as to what books to choose for each prompt, I’ve compiled a list below with suggestions. If you have more, please leave a comment with them- the more, the merrier!

Remember: A book can count toward up to 3 (three) prompts.

Reading Prompts

These ones are pretty straightforward or personal to the reader, so don’t need a recommendation:

Acquire a Ship: Read a book that’s 200+ pages long. The bigger the book, the bigger your ship. This prompt need only be satisfied once.

Name Yer Vessel: Read a book whose title shares a word in common with the book from Acquire a Ship and/or Hoist the Colors (this can be “a” or “the”). This prompt need only be satisfied once.

Treasure Map: Read a book you expect to rate as a 5-star read. This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

Scurvy: Read a book you’ve owned for at least 3 (three) years. This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

Below are the books I recommend for each prompt:

Hoist the Colors: Read a book whose cover is predominantly one color. That’s the color of your pirate flag, matey! This prompt need only be satisfied once.

~

Figurehead: Read a book with a female-identifying main character. This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

~

Mutiny!: Read a book with an ensemble cast (more than two MCs). This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

~

Port Royal: Read a book featuring a pirate (fiction, nonfiction, space pirates, airship pirates- as long as there’s a pirate featured, it counts). This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

~

Cannon & Saber: Read a book written by a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color) author. This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

~

White Squall: Read an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic story. This prompt may be satisfied multiple times.

And most importantly…have fun!

  1. Oooh thanks for the suggestions! Obviously like half the books I own I have owned for 3+ years so that is easy- and the other half have to be apoc/post-apoc, right? I am just going to assume so. Love seeing Marrow Thieves on ANYONE’S lists, frankly. I also had no idea Gideon was one! Now I want to read it even more! I have to bookmark this for sure!

    • I have a feeling you have at least 10 books that satisfy every single prompt. 😀 Gideon is such a fun ride, but be forewarned: you won’t have a clue what’s happening until the very end, and you’re not meant to.
