What’s in a name?
Before the Spaniards came to the Philippines, engraved gold coins called piloncitos were used as currency. This color evokes the aged gold color that takes on a greenish patina.
Swatches
A large swatch of ink showcases the darkest this ink gets, as well as the maximum properties it has (when held at the right angle to show any shimmer or sheen). But what about when you’re writing a letter or notes with it?
The above was written on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a FPR Himalaya v2 fountain pen with a Flex nib.
Of course, for maximum effect you want to see it in light and in motion. The following video shows the ink swatched on Skylab Letterpress 160gsm cards.
Thoughts
This is definitely a patina green- they hit the nail on the head there. And it’s a shimmerbomb of an ink as well. I did experience a couple of hard starts- probably my fault, not agitating the pen often enough while writing- and the ink is thick. But it’s such a lovely, unusual color that I feel it’s worth the extra effort.
I’m also gonna say this, though- that fine shimmer is kind of a pain to clean out of a converter. I had to use a jewelry cleaner, plus Goulet Pen Flush, plus a Q-tip, and it’s still got some of that dark gold shimmer in there.
*All pics and vid were taken using a Samsung Galaxy S22 and color-adjusted to best reflect the hue of that ink.
