Specs

Name: Cosy Up

Maker: Diamine

Color Family: Pink

Properties: Shading

Purchased at: Atlas Stationers (came in the 2022 Diamine InkVent)

What’s in a name?

Like the vast majority of the Diamine InkVent colors (from all three years now), the name doesn’t really have a logical correspondence to the color. They’re often along holiday themes, like Garland or Holly, but after 50 holiday-themed names, it seems Diamine is leaning toward the more esoteric (like something you’d want to do when it’s cold outside, as opposed to a holiday-specific noun).

Swatches

A large swatch of ink showcases the darkest this ink gets, as well as the maximum properties it has (when held at the right angle to show any shimmer or sheen). But what about when you’re writing a letter or notes with it?

Lots of shading with this slightly coral-tinged pink.
Aaaaand the close-up. This is the level of shading I’d expect with a Flex nib, yet in a Medium.

The above was written on Tomoe River 68gsm paper, using a Platinum Prefounte fountain pen with a Medium nib.

Of course, for maximum effect you want to see it in light and in motion. The following video shows the ink swatched on Skylab Letterpress 160gsm cards

Thoughts

That’s not a typo, it’s cozy with an ‘s’- the British spelling. Anyway, this coral pink is a very transparent and thin ink that flows pretty wetly. Even in a Medium nib pen, it laid down a startling amount of ink, which led to some handwriting adjustments to keep my e’s from becoming blobs (with limited success). I think it’ll make a great sketching ink, but as a writing ink it may end up a little too light to use in an EF or F nib. Still, the shading is dramatic and it’s an interesting hue of pink- the more concentrated bits look coral, to me, whereas the lighter bits look rose pink. There seems to be just the slightest hint of orange in the pink, which makes it a unique color in my experience. Diamine is hitting it out of the park with shaders this year!

*All pics and vid were taken using a Samsung Galaxy S22 and color-adjusted to best reflect the hue of that ink.
