Wyvern Wednesdays: July 21st

Feeling

I’ve caught a bit of hope, partially after making changes to prioritize my mental health (remove constant triggers) and physical health (making yet more appointments).

Thinking About

How I can balance things such that I’m not tempted to go overboard, since my hyper-focus recently returned in spades.

Also, ways to ensure I do actually sit and read a book or watch TV for an hour a day.

Plotting

My contributions to Austen in August

Working On

Cooking every day, such that I use all the vegetables in my weekly CSA delivery (which is surprisingly difficult, considering I’m only one person and I generally only eat twice a day).

But it takes me generally two hours to plan out the meals for the upcoming week, based on the list of veg I’m going to get and what I already have on hand. Partially because I’m a food dweeb that wants to try as many things as possible, so I rarely cook the same dish twice in a decade.

Reading

Watching

I finished Loki and need a beat to lower my standards before I shift back to “regular TV”.

  1. Okay your cooking is IMPRESSIVE. Especially to me, person who ONLY makes the same 2 or 3 things over and over again. (And one of my Indian seasoning mixes has been out of stock for months which is extra bad news!) Seriously, how the heck do you do it!?

I am glad you are feeling hopeful, I love it! And glad you have made some appointments- and sorry that it is always so damn difficult!

Also Idk what that Jane book is but I LOOOOVE the cover! And if you cannot deal with regular TV… may I recommend a The 100 rewatch? It is the only thing that helps me through a show slump, tbh.

    • Awww thank you! It's a weird twitch- I didn't even know it wasn't normal until a couple years ago. 😀 I have (yet another) project to compile all my disparate recipes into one folder, but I also have a bunch of great cookbooks, so….I dunno, maybe this is the same drive that I have where I feel like I have to read everything on my shelves.

Right now, I belong to a CSA, so every week I'm drowning in vegetables and looking for ways to use them up quickly and easily. 😀 (I also try to find good recipes for my Ninja Foodi, because it makes everything easier). I dunno, I need to lean into how you do it.

What's the Indian seasoning mix that's out of stock? Maybe you could find it at Savory Spice or something?

Hahahahaha I just finished my re-watch of The 100! But thank you. My watch list is freaking endlessssss.

    • I think I am on the other side of the spectrum, but also not in the normal range hahah. Though I'd way prefer to be like you and have variety, I hate cooking too much to be bothered.

Oooh that is cool! I had never heard of a CSA so I googled and that is awesome, I had no idea that was a thing! The spice mix is Gobi Aloo, and I emailed back and forth with a guy from the company who sells it, and it is on back order. I know there are recipes online but again, I hate cooking hah. I looked at Savory Spice, which is cool, because I did not know that existed either, so thanks for that! But alas, they do not have it. Maybe I'll get desperate enough to try a recipe? I honestly might, I am so bored of tacos bwhah.

Dude, my watch list is also endless, but I rewatch The 100 instead because I have problems. Have I recommended Sweet Tooth yet to you guys? Because watch Sweet Tooth! And hey, Manifest might be saved if you are interested in it!

    • Oh yeah, having a CSA basically forces me to eat a lot of veg (and a wide variety of it) because I'm afraid it'll go bad if I don't use it. 😀

Ohhh I've made Aloo Gobi (with cauliflower) but never seen it as a pre-made spice mixture. How cool! I hope they catch up on production soon.

How do you get comfy enough with a recipe to try it and add it to your routine- does it have to have a max of steps, or make a lot, or…?

I actually got one season into Manifest and then stopped. It bored me. I have the oddest taste in TV, I swear. Isn't Sweet Tooth a middle school-level TV show? I'm glad to hear it's good! What I need to do is put all my in-progress and recommended shows into a database and make notes about where I am and what I thought and whether the show is on hold, and then sort through that. I tried putting them in my Bullet Journal and then just….stopped looking at that spread. 😀
How to hack your own brain is a lifelong project, I swear.
