Health-wise, this has been a struggleful month. I lost Medicaid and SNAP coverage at the end of February, and spent a harried few days applying for financial aid from my medical providers, appealing the denials, canceling appointments, and writing to politicians for help.

Unfortunately, as part of this, my Medicaid provider denied all of my Rx in February, forcing me to go off meds cold-turkey. Some of those side effects, not to mention the mental stress and fear, put me in a very, very, VERY bad place for mental health.

Luckily, I have some amazing doctors right now and they each made care plans for me that took my finances into account. I also hired a lawyer to help me appeal my disability denial. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Dare I hope that my massive reading slump is over?? Even though I messed up my first round of Labyrinth TBR, I conquered this month. Wahoo!

  • I’ve been knitting soap socks and a little bag to hold the remote and other small things next to my recliner.
  • Lots of garden prep work! Too much, really. It’s been overwhelming and I’m behind on starting virtually everything. But I’m fueled by spite at this point.

After a bad mental health scare, I joined a Long COVID support group. Combined with being part of a Long COVID study, which opened my eyes to just how many symptoms have been clocked as side effects of this disastrous disease (over 200, btw), I’m mostly learning that I’m not alone.

Progress is slow, but I’m learning to let go of completion compulsion, that it’s OK if I have dirty laundry on the floor or the dishes are piling up, or even if the quality of my work is not as great as I think it should be.

Honestly, the garden is kind of my guiding star right now. The goal is the doing, not getting a specific harvest or reaching a milestone. It’s having a thing in my life which reminds me of my connection to the Earth and to life.
