Quetzalcoatl by Kiwi Inks

Quetzalcoatl by Kiwi Inks

Kiwi Inks calls it a green sheen- to me, it’s gold, but the effect is still stunning. I can’t seem to find much of the fabled blue shimmer, but a friend who ordered a sample of the exact same color found hers to be chock full of shimmer.

Arctic Blast by Diamine

Arctic Blast by Diamine

A sheening chameleon ink, this is a wet ink with a strong sheen effect and less shimmer than I expected to come through. I was a little bummed about the low shimmer, but that’s offset nicely by such dramatic shading (another surprise).

Upon a Star by Diamine

Upon a Star by Diamine

The above photo was taken in direct sunlight. Ink is swatched on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a glass dip pen. Specs Name: Upon a Star Maker: Diamine Color Family: Blue Properties: Shimmering, Sheening Purchased at: Atlas Stationers (came in the 2022 Diamine InkVent) What’s in a name? This InkVent has had several blue inks with a red sheen and a shimmer, but this one is at least named something akin to imagining the night sky. Swatches A large swatch of ink showcases the darkest this ink gets, as well as the maximum properties it has (when held at the right angle […]

Spruce by Diamine

The above photo was taken in direct sunlight. Ink is swatched on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a glass dip pen. Specs Name: Spruce Maker: Diamine Color Family: Green Properties: Scented, Sheening Purchased at: Atlas Stationers (came in the 2022 Diamine InkVent) What’s in a name? This one is pretty straightforward. The green definitely has an evergreen dusky dark quality to it, like pine needles. Swatches A large swatch of ink showcases the darkest this ink gets, as well as the maximum properties it has (when held at the right angle to show any shimmer or sheen). But what about when you’re writing […]

Long Trail by Colorverse

The above photo was taken in direct sunlight. Ink is swatched on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a glass dip pen. Specs Name: Long Trail Maker: Colorverse Color Family: Teal Properties: Sheening Gifted to me by my generous Giftmas in July swap partner, Heather! What’s in a name? Colorverse has a special USA series of inks, with an ink inspired by and named for something from each of the 50 states. Long Trail celebrates Vermont, with its 272-mile hiking trail through the forest. Although this is classified as a teal ink, it really leans toward hunter green (more green than blue), and […]

Fire and Ice by Robert Oster

Fire and Ice by Robert Oster

The above photo was taken in direct sunlight. Ink is swatched on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a glass dip pen. Specs Name: Fire and Ice Maker: Robert Oster Color Family: Blue Properties: Sheening, Shimmering, Shading (low) Purchased at: Goulet Pens What’s in a name? I couldn’t find anything definitive, but I assume the name came from the contrast between the red/pink sheen in this ink and it’s base blue (with slight green undertone) hue. Swatches A large swatch of ink showcases the darkest this ink gets, as well as the maximum properties it has (when held at the right angle to […]

Alexander Hamilton by De Atramentis

Alexander Hamilton by De Atramentis

The above photo was taken in direct sunlight. Ink is swatched on Clairefontaine 90gsm paper, using a glass dip pen. Specs Name: Alexander Hamilton Maker: De Atramentis Color Family: Purple Properties: Shading (low), Sheening (low) Purchased at: Goulet Pens What’s in a name? De Atramentis says nothing about why this ink was so named, but I’ve read that this ink was originally named for its hue (Aubergine) and then re-branded with our sexy founding father, after the popularity of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical revitalized interest in American history. I don’t know if that’s true, either. I really wish there was […]
