After surviving the strangest night of their lives in the Cleveland suburb of Stony Stream, intrepid young newspaper deliverers Erin, Mac, and Tiffany find themselves launched from 1988 to a distant and terrifying future... the year 2016. What would you do if you were confronted by your 12-year-old self? 40-year-old newspaper reporter Erin Tieng is about to find out in this action-packed story about identity, mortality, and growing older in the 21st century.

5 Stars

Characters: 9, I felt like each of the four MCs were developed enough that I could tell them apart, including how they approach adversity and mystery. And I cared about each of them.

Atmosphere: 9, as fun as it is to recognize the setting of 1988 and 2016, I found it super immersive with the unknown time traveler stuff. The artwork is top-notch in character expression and environment, and had me hunting for little background details.

Writing: 9, I’m never not gonna love a Brian K. Vaughan story, really. But I felt the pacing was excellent and carried enough tension to keep me flipping pages whilst also involving character development.

Plot: 9, incredibly original and kept surprising me. I loved the use of fictional slang language akin to keyboard shortcuts, used by the “old timers”. And the moral ambiguity- who’s truly the “good guys”?

Intrigue: 9, see above.

Logic: 9, as much as we know of each character, they seem to be acting in accordance to their aims. And there’s some science logic (like calculating for the shifting of the earth when you jump in time) that was lovely.

Enjoyment: 9, I liked this so much, I read it twice. And now I can’t wait to blitz through the rest of the series (and contrast it with the TV show).
